Montane create lightweight and breathable clothing for mountain climbing, running and biking. Montane was created over 18 years ago. Founded by a young passionate engineer who in between venturing out to explore the remote and wild places of this earth, began sewing garments for friends and fellow mountain enthusiasts. In 2010 & 2011 in the the central highlands of New Guinea, where as much as 5,000mm of rain falls per year, Aquapac products kept Ricky's gear protected.
Nite Watches
Nite Watches are issued to UK Special Forces and feature a rare illumination technology called GTLS (Gaseous Tritium Light Source). Nite Watches have served as official expedition time keeper on two challenging New Guinea expeditions and will accompany Ricky to Denali in April 2011.

Winston Churchill Memorial Trust
Sir Winston Churchill´s legacy lives on through the work of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. Annually the Trust awards over 100 grants to individuals who wish to undertake studies relating to theirinterest, education or profession. WCMT believes the inspirational journey benefits the Fellows and others in the UK through knowledge sharing; achieved primarily through personal development and dissemination of the benefits of what they learn on their travels. Ricky was awarded a 2010 Travelling Fellowship as Leader of the Australasia 3 Peaks Glacier Expedition. WCMT also kindly agreed that he could carry forward the balance of the 2010 grant to return to Papua in October 2011 to complete the Carstensz Pyramid Glacier Expedition.
Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust
The Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust (JWCT) is a charity set up in tribute to and memory of Jeremy Willson. The charity helps people and projects that reflect Jeremy’s passions in life: athletics, geology, adventure and the environment. The expedition was awarded a grant of £750 against expedition costs in 2011 and I’m very grateful to JWCT for their support. The trustees have kindly agreed that I can use unspent funds for my return to Papua in October 2011.
Alpine Club of Canada Environment Fund
Alpine Club of Canada Environment Fund - The purpose of the Fund is to provide support that contributes to the protection and preservation of mountain and climbing environments. This expedition is made possible in part through a grant from the Alpine Club of Canada´s Environment Fund. The expedition has been awarded funding to buy photographic equipment to help create a photographic record of ice cap cover in the region.
Lyon Equipment Expedition Award
Ricky was awarded a Lyon Equipment Expedition Award in both 2006 and 2010. He's very grateful to Lyon Equipment for their support. Lyon Equipment is the leading distributor of quality caving, climbing, mountaineering and general outdoor equipment to outdoor retailers throughout the UK and Ireland. Lyon is the sole UK and Ireland distributor for Petzl, Julbo, La Sportiva and Exped.
Approved status
The Royal Scottish Geographical Society is the foremost charity in Scotland which promotes an understanding of the natural environment and human societies. RSGS aims to reinforce the importance of Geography in schools and wider education, by underlining its relevance in national and global issues of public concern and helping to frame the debate around these issues. The Expedition has been ‘approved’ by RSGS.
